DD has lupus, she wears these when she aches and doesn't get the comments that she gets when she wears other things. These help keep the wrist warm. Makes nice "quickie gift". Can be made from sock yarn up through worsted. I have played with patterns, a bias or rib works best. Stranded knitting would add warmth. worsted weight: dp needles #5, 1-2 oz yarn Cast on 40 stitches, K1P1 rib for 4 inches. Decrease 5 sts evenly around. Rib 1". Increase 5 sts back on. Rib 2 1/4 ". Next row, bind off 8 sts (thumb opening), rib rest of row. Next row, cast those 8 sts back on. Rib 3 more rows. Cast off. sock weight: dp needles #2, 1 oz yarn Cast on 60 sts, K1P1 rib for 4 inches. Decrease 8 sts evenly around. Rib 1". Increase 8 sts evenly around. Rib 2 1/4". Next row, cast off 11 sts (thumb opening), rib rest of row. Next row, cast those 11 sts back on. Rib 3 more rows. Cast off. Variations: use spiral ribbing - Row 1-6 *K3, P3.* Row 7-12 K2, *P3, K3*, K1 Row 13-18 K1, *P3, K3*, K2 Row 19-24 *P3, K3* Row 25-30 P2, *K3, P3*, P1 Row 31-36 P1, *K3, P3*, P2 Scale pattern - Do the bottom portion in scale pattern up to the decrease. Then change to ribbing. Looks nice, and the bias of the pattern makes the scales spiral. Cast on 63. Row 1: *YO, SSK, K5*. Row 2 and all even rows: Knit. Row 3: *YO, K1, SSK, K4*. Row 5: *YO, K2, SSK, K3*. Row 7: *YO, K3, SSK, K2*. Row 9: *YO, K4, SSK, K1*. Row 11: *YO, K5, SSK*.
