I would like to contribute (my very first) it to the '97 Knit List Gift Exchange. Hope you have fun with it. Soap Sack by Joanne Box Worsted weight cotton. 4.25mm circular and/or double point needles. Cast on 44 stitches. Rows 1 & 2 *k2, p2* to end. Rows 3 & 4 *p2, k2* to end. Rows 5 & 6 *k2, p2* to end. Rows 7 & 8 Knit. Row 9 Eyelets: *yo, k2 tog.* the entire round. Rows 10 & 11 Knit. Rows 12 & 13 *k2, p2* to end. Rows 14 & 15 *p2, k2* to end. Repeat rows 12 thru 15 until desired length. (mine is approx. 4.5 inches from the top) Next 2 Rows Knit. Bottom: Decreases: *K8, sl 2, k1, pass two slipped stitches over the 1 knit stitch*. Repeat from * around. *Knit to within one stitch of center decrease stitch. You should have worked the stitch so that the next 3 look like this: /|\ . Slip 2, knit 1, pass slipped stitches over the knit stitch. Repeat around. * Continue in this manner, changing to double points when necessary, until 4 stitches remain. Finish: Cut yarn, leaving a 4" tail, run through remaining stitches and pull tight. Tie: Crochet a chain out of the same yarn long enough to run through the eyelets and tie. Insert soap, wet sack and lather. Use sack as a washcloth.
