The difference is the yarn that you use. These can be worked in any pattern stitch other than stockinette st. st.st. curls, and that is not desirable. Bedjacket: Gauge: 5.5 sts = 1" on # 6 US needles ( DK weight yarn ) Cast on 116 sts.If you know temporary cast on, please do that. Work in pattern for 50". Change to # 4 US needles and *knit 2 tog, purl 2 tog * across the row Work 3" in k1,p1. Bind off. Re-attach yarn to beginning ( remove temporary cast on ) and * knit 2 tog, purl 2 tog * across row. Bind off. sew the ribbed cuff and about another 2 inches together. You may want to crochet across "top" edge to help keep it on shoulder.
