Wow, my mailbox has been Full this week. For all those knitlisters who would like to try the Santa Hat pattern, here it is! The hat is sized to fit a 10" knitted Santa doll. Instructions for slightly larger hats to fit a 18" and 35" doll are also in the original mag. article (e-mail me if you need the doll pattern or the larger size). I have not tried this yet myself, so if you whip it out, please let us know how it works out. The original calls for fake fur to be added as a trim. Evidently cooking (and/or eating good stuff) is popular with knitlisters too. So here is the second half of the hat pattern, and it's one I have tried and can highly recommend. Pattern for MERRY CHRISTMAS MINESTRONE QUICK AND EASY SOUP MIX TO MAKE THE MIX-- Go to a market with a large selections of dried beans. Select a total of 14# of various dried beans and peas. Select a nice assortment for color and size. Suggestions -- red kidney beans, small white beans, red beans, pink beans, Great Northern beans, green split peas, yellow split peas, black beans. --To make 14 packages of mix, you will need -- 14 lbs. assorted dried beans 7 cups elbow macaroni In an enormous container, mix all the dried beans and peas EXCEPT for the macaroni. Measure 1/2 cup macaroni into individual bags (I use cellophane sucker bags). Measure 1-1/2 cups of the bean mixture into a larger cellophane bag and place the smaller bag of macaroni inside on top of the beans. I think with the Santa hat, it would be fun to tie the bags closed with red yarn, tie on the hat, and hang the recipe off the bow. Here is the soup recipe to give with each bag of mix-- Merry Christmas Minestrone Quick and Easy Soup Mix In addition to this mix, you will need- 7 cups water 1 lg can (28 oz) ready-cut tomatoes 1 small onion, chopped 2 tsp. Italian Seasoning 1 pkg. (16 oz.) frozen Mediterranean Style Vegetables OR 4 cups assorted fresh vegetables, sliced 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce 1-2 cups water 1 lb. cooked ground beef, Italian Sausage, or chicken (optional) Put water in a large pot and add bean portion of soup mix. Add 1 1/2 T salt, if desired. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Add canned tomatoes (undrained), onion, and Italian Seasoning. Bring to a boil. Add vegetables, tomato sauce, additional water, and macaroni. Lower heat, cook until macaroni and vegetables are tender, 15-20 minutes. Add meat if desired, and heat through. Makes 6-8 hearty servings. ------------ Denise DLEVS@aol.com --- This pattern downloaded from Wool Works: the online knitting compendium http://www.woolworks.org/
