One of our members worked up this pattern and distributed it to the guild. I am sure she would not mind my posting it to the net, she is a physician herself and is very aware of the need for such items. Materials: 100 yds of sport of fingering weight yarn in cotton or acrylic or superwash wool. Needles: size 3,4 or 5 double pointed needles--your choice depending on your yarn. She used glove needles on the really little hats. Sizes preemie to newborn Guage: 6 to 8 stitches = 1" K=knit DP=double point, ST=stitch, BEG=begin, STS= stitches, DEC=decrease, TOG together, REM=remain Begin: Cast on 48 (56 or a multiple of 8). Knit evenly for 4 inches. Shaping: K6, K2TOG. Repeat to end of round. K5, K2TOG, Repeat to end of round. k4, K2TOG Repeat to end of round. Repeat this DEC progression until 5 ST REM. Knit these STS for 6 rows. Cut yarn 2 inches long and pull through remaining STS. Pull tail to inside and shape stem. Secure tail. Leaves can be added. Also stripes, purl patterns, fairisle, anything you would like to try. Be creative with it. Have fun. I made three of these to donate and they took me about an hour to make. Some mindless knitting that will greatly appreciated. Happy knitting! --- This pattern downloaded from Wool Works: the online knitting compendium http://www.woolworks.org/
