Trying to get over a cold before the family arrives. Here is my pattern for the gift list. I have done it a few times and it has been well admired. POLO TOP MEASUREMENTS: To fit bust: in30 (32:34:36:38:40) Actual measurement: in32 (34-1/2:37-1/2:40-1/2:43-1/2:46) Full length: in19 (19-1/2:20:20-1/2:21:21-1/2) Sleeve length: in4-1/2 (4-1/2 4-1/2:4-1/2:4-1/2:4-1/2) TENSION: 22 sts and 30 rows to in4 over Pattern on size 8 needles. MATERIALS: Double Knitting G100 3 (3:3:4:4:4) Knitting Needles: UK size 8 & UK size 10 Stitch Holders; 3 Buttons ABBREVIATIONS ssk: Sl2 sts knitways one at a time then insert left-hand needle into fronts of these 2 sts from the left and knit them together. PATTERN: 1st Row: K1, * k1, k2together, yfwd, k1, yfwd, ssk, k2; rep from * to end. 2nd and every alt Row: Purl. 3rd Row: K1, * k2together, yfwd, k3, yfwd, ssk, k1; rep from * to end. 5th Row: K2together, * yfwd, k5, yfwd, s1, k2together, psso; rep from * end last rep ssk. 7th Row: K1, * yfwd, ssk, k3, k2together, yfwd, k1; rep from * to end. 9th Row: K1, * k1, yfwd, ssk, k1, k2together, yfwd, k2; rep from * to end. 11th Row: K1, * k2, yfwd, s1, k2together, psso, yfwd, k3; rep from * to end. 12th Row: Purl. Rep these 12 rows. FRONT: Using size 10 needles cast on 89 (97:105:113:121:129) sts, work in rib for 5 cm, ending with a wrong side row. Change to size 8 needles and working in Pattern proceed as follows: Keeping continuity of patt as set proceed until Front measures 31 cm, ending with 12th row of patt. Shape Armhole and Divide for Neck: Next Row: Cast off 4 sts, patt 36 (40:44:48:52:56), turn, leave rem 48 (52:56:60:64:68) sts on a stitch holder. Working on these 37 (41:45:49:53:57) sts only proceed as follows: Next Row: Patt. Work 17 (19:21:23:25:27) rows dec 1 st at armhole edge of nt and every following alt row 9 (10:11:12:13:14) times: 28 (31:34:37:40:43) sts. Continue without shaping until armhole measures 10 (11:12:14:15:16) cm ending with a right side row. Shape Neck: Next Row: Cast off 3 (4:5:6:7:8) sts, patt to end: 25 (27:29:31:33:35) sts. Change to size 8 needles and working in Pattern proceed as follows: Work 21 rows inc 1 st each end of 5th and every following 4th row 5 times, working inc sts in patt: 67 (75:75:83:91:91) sts. Continue without shaping until Sleeve measures 11 cm, ending with 12th row of patt. Shape top of Sleeve: Cast off 4 sts at beg of nt 2 rows: 59 (67:67:75:83:83) sts. Work 15 (11:11:11:11:11) rows dec 1 st each end of 3rd and every following 4th row 4 (3:3:3:3:3) times: 51 (61:61:69:77:77) sts. Work 16 (22:26:30:30:34) rows dec 1 st each end of 2nd and every following alt row 8 (11:13:15:15:17) times: 35 (39:35:39:47:43) sts. Work 9 (11:9:11:15:13) rows dec 1 st each end of nt and every following row 9 (11:9:11:15:13) times: 17 sts. Cast off. BUTTONHOLE BORDER: With right side facing using size 10 needles pick up and knit 25 (29:31:35:39:41) sts evenly along right edge. Commencing with 2nd row of rib proceed as follows: Next 2 Rows: Rib. Next Row: Rib 4, (cast off 2 sts, rib 5 (7:8:10:12:13) 2 times, cast off 2 sts, rib 2: 19 (23:25:29:33:35) sts. Next Row: Rib 3, cast on 2 sts, (rib 6 (8:9:11:13:14), cast on 2 sts) 2 times, rib 4: 25 (29:31:35:39:41) sts. Next 3 Rows: Rib. Cast off in rib. BUTTON BORDER: Work to match Buttonhole Border omitting buttonholes. COLLAR: Join shoulder seams. With right side facing, using size 10 needles, commencing halfway across Right Front Border pick up and k4 sts across Border, 26 (27:28:29:30:31) sts evenly along right side of neck, 29 (31:33:35:37:39) sts from back of neck, 26 (27:28:29:30:31) sts evenly along left side of neck and 4 sts across Left Front Border, ending halfway across Border: 89 (93:97:101:105:109) sts. Proceed as follows: Work in rib for 10 cm. Cast off in rib. TO MAKE UP: Fold Sleeves in half lengthways, then placing folds to shoulder seams, sew Sleeves in position. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew Front Borders, right over left, in position. Sew on Buttons. See ball band for pressing and care instructions.
