I am somewhat of a free form knitter, so the row count is approximate. This pattern could be adjusted for a lighter weight of yarn (DK or sock weight) using smaller needles. I am using worsted, just because I have a ton of worsted weight scraps. This is a quick project, but may be frustrating getting DP needles to behave on such a small project. Mini Mittens: Worsted weight yarn Double pointed needles size 7 Cast on 12 stitches on DP needles, arranging 4 stitches on each needle. Do knit 1 purl 1 rib for 3 rounds. Switch to st st for 2 rounds. On third round put first two stitches on holder (paper clip works great for this) and cast on 2 stitches (think button holes). Continue in st st for 6 or 7 rows. On next row, knit 2 tog all around. This process will leave 6 stitches (2 on each needle) Break yarn and thread through stitches, pulling together. Thumb: Pick up the two stitches on holder with one needle and pick up two stitches on other side of hole with other needle. Knit in the round for 2 or 3 rows, break yarn and thread through stitches. Weave in ends. Repeat above for second mitten. When pair is completed, take a 6 inch length of matching yarn and weave an end into one mitten cuff and other end into the other mitten cuff. This will look like those mittens we wore as children (or may still wear!) where the string would go through you coat sleeves to prevent lost mittens. This idea could be used for an addition to wreaths, Christmas package decorations, mittens for dolls, etc. Enjoy! I hope the instructions aren't too frustrating!
