I remove the KnitList and its moderators from any responsibilities regarding the originality of this design. Please contact me by E-mail if you have problems following my directions. This is the first time I've attempted to write out a knitting pattern. Constructive suggestions will be noted. Materials - Approx. 30 oz. Worsted weight yarn Finished size approximately 48" by 52" (122 X 132 cm) Needles - 29" circular size 9(5.5mm) or size required to match guage. Guage - 9 stitches equals 2-1/4 (6.36 cm) inches in stockinette (basketweave) Pattern stitch: Eyelet cable (EC) - 2 st X 4 rows R1: K1 yo K1 R2: P3 R3: Sl 1 K2 PSSO (over both knit stitches) R4: P2 Basketweave (BW) - 8 st X 16 rows R1: P1 K6 P1 R2: K1 P6 K1 Repeat rows 1 and 2 3 more times (8 rows total) R9: P8 R10: K8 Repeat rows 9 and 10 3 more times (8 rows total) Cast on 170 stitches, knit in garter stitch for 8 rows. First pattern row: K4 *work first row of eyelet cable(EC), work first row of basketweave(BW), repeat from * 15 more times work first row of EC, K4. Second pattern row: K4 *work row 2 of EC, row 2 of BW* repeat *-* 15 times, K4. Continue in this manner. There will be four repeats of the cable for one repeat of the basketweave. Repeat 16 row pattern a total of 15 times or until desired length is reached. Work first 8 rows of pattern then 8 rows of garter stitch. Cast off loosely. Please note: Guage I think is somewhat unimportant for this afghan. Pick a yarn that you love, use it single or double and go for it. Pretty variations would be to change the color of the yarn every eight rows or knit the eyelet cables with a different color yarn. - - - - - - - - - - I love the KnitList let's keep it alive.
