So here it is again. KNIT SHOULDER BAG Materials: 550 yds. Worsted cotton, cotton blend or denim yarn, 24 inch # 7 circular needles and # 7 DPs. On DP needles, cast on 8 sts. Mark beginning of row. [Editor's note: I'm guessing the bag is to be knit in the round.] Row 1 and all odd # rows: purl Row 2: Knit - inc. in every st. (16 sts) Row 4: *K 1, inc. in next st. * repeat (24 sts.) Row 6: *K 2, inc. in next st. * repeat (32 sts.) Row 8: *K 3, inc. in next st. * repeat (40 sts.) Row 10: *K 4, inc. in next st. * repeat (48 sts.) Continue to add 1 st. between increases until *knit 18, increase in next st* or 160 sts. End with a purl row. Next row: *K 1, slip 1* repeat until row is finished. BODY PATTERN Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Row 3: *K 1, slip 1 purlwise* Row 4: *P 1, slip 1 purlwise* (be sure the yarn is to the back when you slip stitch) Helpful hint: Do rows 1&2 in one color and rows 3&4 in another to make the slip st. show up more effectively. Continue in pattern for 10 inches (in denim you will need to work for 12 inches as it will shrink when washed). STRAPS: Mark off 4 equal sections (40 sts. Each). Two opposite sections will be straps. Knit 1 row in the following manner: Knit 40 sts., bind off 40 sts., knit 40 more sts., bind off the next 40 sts. You will have two sections of live sts. For straps separated by two bound off sections. Work each strap separately back and forth in garter st. (knit every row) as follows: Slip 1 st., K2 tog. Knit to end of row. Continue to dec. 1 st. at the beginning of each row until 12 sts. Remain. Work even on the sts. until strap measures 14 inches (16 inches for denim). When both straps are of equal length turn them inside out and knit them together. Sew in ends. Pocket: Cast on 30 stitches. Work in stockinette st for 5". Bind off. Sew pocket inside back of bag with bottom at start of body pattern. Button tab: Cast on 20 stitches. In garter st, work 3 rows. Work 3 sts, bind off 3 sts, work rem row. Next row work to bound off sts, cast on 3 sts, work rem 3 sts. Work 3 more rows. Bind off leaving tail to sew to center back of top of bag. Sew 1" button on front of bag. Enjoy!
