So far as I know, this is my own pattern. - - - - - - - - Penney's Hot D**n Mitts Size: Adult medium, large Materials: 100g bulky wool, approx 130 yds or multiple strands of worsted weight, mohair, boucle, sport 6 1/2 mm dpns (US 10 1/2) Gauge: 14 sts and 5 r = 4" more or less (depends on combination of yarns Left Mitten CO 24 (28)sts, join in circle and work 5 rnds garter st. Work st st to 3". Increase 2 sts evenly spaced on next rnd. 26 (30)sts Place marker at halfway point. Work 10 rnds st st. Thumb Opening: K2, using waste yarn K5 (6). Slip those 5 (6) sts back onto left needle and K around. Continue st st until 9 (10)" from beginning. Shape top: *K1, skp, K to within 3 sts of marker, K2tog, K1*. Repeat. Dec each round until 10 sts remain. Break yarn and weave strand though. Draw up and fasten. Thumb: Remove waste yarn. pick up and K 12 (13) sts around opening. Work 10 (11) rnds. next rnd: *K2tog, K2* around next row: K next rnd: *K2tog* Break yarn, weave strand though and draw up. Right Mitten Work as for left except thumb row: K to within 6 (7) sts of end. Use waste yarn on next 5 (6) sts and continue as left mitten.
