Cabled Headband by Myra Arnold Yarn: handspun doghair( Golden Retriever/Samoyed), 2-ply, about 12 wraps/in., any worsted weight yarn will do, fuzzy is nice, soft for next-to-skin comfort is essential. My handspun had one ply loosely twisted & irregularly spun, the other ply finely spun, tightly twisted. You need about 2 oz. of this yarn. Also 1 1/2 cards of "Rainbow Elastic Plus" in color to blend in. Finished Dimensions: 41/2" wide, X 20 1/2" around, ( measured on the cable) Needles: #9 straight or circular, or size to give wanted guage for your yarn. Exact guage is not important to fit because you can knit to fit as you go. Invisible CO:20 sts. Work K2, P2, ribbing for 1". Slip last st. of every row, for a neat edge. Increase Row: In ribbing pattern: work 3 sts, increase in 3rd st. by working in front and back of same sts. (26 sts) Cable Pattern: Row 1: K6, P2, K10, P2, K3, YF, Sl 3. Row 2: K8, P10, K5, YF, Sl 3. Every 8th row: K6, P2, CB10, P2, K3, YF, Sl3. Continue Cable Pattern for 18 3/4",( measured over the center of the cable) Decrease Row: K2, K2tog, K2, P2tog. (K2, K2tog) twice, K2, P2tog, (K2, K2 tog) twice, K2. (20 sts) Work K2, P2 ribbing same as in beginning for 1". Graft ends tog.
