Anyway ,have a good midwinter celebration. HAT/SCARF THINGY: This looks good and it's easy. You need 1 ball of Jaegar "Lulu" or other, fake fur, expensive stuff 1 16" number 8 (US) circular needle Cast on about 85 stitches and join. Knit a tube for about 5" or so. Next round and subsequent rounds , turn ,decrease 1 stitch, knit to end. Continue in this fashion, shaping a Vee. If you like you can round off the edges of your Vee by casting off 2 stitches on some rows. When you have nearly run out of yarn ,cast off. You will have noticed a certain sloppiness in these instructions. This is partly because everyone's preferences and tensions differ and partly cos these fake fur yarns are very forgiving and shaping is not a crucial issue. You should however end up with a somewhat shaped, knitted tube big enough to go over your head. You wear it thus: As a neck warmer slide it on with the Vee end uppermost forming a collar over your coat. As a hat put the flat area on the top of your head, pull the tube section over that and around your skull in jaunty fashion, secure with a brooch if you're afraid it might slip.
