My grandmother (Mamaw) has a very nice afghan pattern that I haven't seen elsewhere. I'm sure she won't mind if I pass it on. Mamaw calls it Galaxy: The afghan is knit as panels which are later sewn together. Each panel has a top and bottom border of 8 rows of garter stitch, and side border of 4 stitches of garter stitch on each side. From the little research I've done, it seems to be a variation on the lace pattern Old Shale. Panel: Cast on 16 stitches, then knit 8 rows of garter stitch. Row 1: K4, then YO2, K1 across, but YO only 1 before final K4 Row 2: K4, drop 1 (the yarnover), P2 across, K4 Row 3: K4, K2TOG, knit across till there are 6 sts, K2TOG, K4 Row 4,5,6,7,8 repeat Row 3, leaving you with 16 stitches. repeat rows 1-8 to desired length end with 8 rows of garter stitch [...] Shelley in Ohio shelley.mcclanahan@gmail.com --- This pattern downloaded from Wool Works: the online knitting compendium http://www.woolworks.org/
