Adjust by making different width strips, different number of strips (I used 3), and different length. This size took almost 24 ozs each of two colors (blue and white), acrylic worsted weight yarn. I used size 11 needles for a soft-feeling drapeable fabric. Use what pleases you as far as gauge is concerned. The afghan is made in long strips, using different two-color slip-stitch patterns from the Barbara Walker stitch treasuries. I used 19 different patterns for my afghan. One strip was made thusly: CO 55 sts in blue. K 1 ridge (2 rows). Change to white and K 1 ridge. Make 4 ridges, alternating colors, ending on wrong side. Keeping 5 sts on either side in garter st, begin first sl-st pattern. Work until sl-st portion is roughly square (for me that worked out to about 28 or 29 garter st ridges in the border. Made it easy to count). Work 4 alternating color garter st ridges across for border of first square. Continue in this way, separating the sl-st panels by alternating color garter st borders until strip is the length you desire. BO. Make as many strips as you need to reach the dimension you require. Sew the long edges of the strips together with mattress st. Fringe or not to your taste. This pattern can be modified in many ways. Use lace panels instead of sl-st. Your imagination is the only limit.
