I made up the pattern as I went along. This makes a basketweave pattern that has a garter stitch border on all four sides, and the edges don't curl. I used an acrylic baby yarn a little lighter that knitting worsted and a US size 7 needle (4.5 mm). The gauge was 4.5 st/inch. I hated handling the acrylic, but Nadia loves the fact that she can just throw it in the washer and dryer! The finished size was about 32 in x 36 in. I cast on 140 stitches and started with a garter stitch edge for about 10 rows and then switched to the pattern of: Row 11: K10, *K10 P10*, Repeat from * until there are 10 stitches remaining on needle, K10. Row 12: K10, *P10 K10*, Repeat from * until there are 10 stitches remaining on needle, K10. Repeat rows 11 and 12 four times (10 row pattern). Row 21: K10, *P10 K10*, Repeat from * until there are 10 stitches remaining on needle, K10. Row 22: K10, *K10 P10*, Repeat from * until there are 10 stitches remaining on needle, K10. Repeat rows 21 and 22 four times (10 row pattern). Repeat these 20 rows until baby blanket is long enough (about 35"). Garter stitch next 10 rows and bind off loosely. Nadia swears it's the baby's favorite blanket!
