OK, folks here is the "long-awaited" fisherman afghan pattern I designed
for my mother (Sue Tresnak).  Enjoy, and pass along to your heart's

Materials needed:  

approximately 36 ounces of DK'ish weight yarn (Wool Ease in Oxford Gray
supplied)

Size 9 circular knitting needle

Size G crochet hook (optional)

cable needle

Patterns:

Seed stitch: (odd number of stitches)

R1:  *K1, P1, repeat from  * to last stitch, ending K1

Repeat Row 1.



Framed Cable: (18 stitch panel) #

Notes:  Front cross (FC): slide 3 stitches to double pointed needle (dpn)
and hold
in front; knit 3, then knit 3 from dpn.
Single Front Cross (SFC):  sl 1 st to dpn and hold in front, p1, then k1-b 
(through back loop) from dpn.
Single Back Cross (SBC):  sl 1 st to dpn and hold in back, k1-b, then p1 
from dpn.

R1: (wrong side) k5, p8, k5
R2:  p4, SBC, k6, SFC, p4
R3:  and all subsequent wrong-side rows: knit all knit stitches and purl
all purls.
R4:  p3, SBC, p1, k6, p1, SFC, p3
R6:  p2, SBC, p2, FC, p2, SFC, p2
R8:  p1, SBC, p3, k6, p3,  SFC, p1
R10:  p1, SFC, p3, k6, p3, SBC, p1
R12:  p2, SFC, p2, FC, p2, SBC, p2
R 14:  p3, SFC, p1, k6, p1, SBC, p3
R16:  p4, SFC, k6, SBC, p4




Popcorn Stitch: (4x + 2 stitches)

R1 (wrong side):  k1, *(k1, p1, k1) all in next stitch, p3 tog, repeat from
* to last 
st, ending k1.
R2:  P all stitches
R3:  k1, *p 3 tog, (k1, p1, k1) all in next stitch, repeat from * to last
st, ending with 
k1.
R4:  P all stitches.




Tilting Ladder:  multiple of 13 sts plus 2 #

R1:  (wrong side)  k2, *p5, k1, p5, k2, rep from *
R2:  p2, *k1, (yo, k2 tog) twice, p1, k5, p2; repeat from *
R3 and R 5:  k2, *p4, k2, p5, k2; rep from *
R4: p2, *k1, (yo, k2 tog) twice, p2, k4, p2; rep from *
R 6: p2, *k1, (yo, k2 tog) twice, p2, sl next 2 sts to dpn and hold in
back, k2 then 
k2 from dpn, p2; rep from *
R 7-12:  repeat rows 3-6, then rows 3 & 4 again.
R 13:  repeat row 1
R 14:  p2 *k5, p1 (ssk, yo) twice, k1, p2, rep from *
R15 and 17:  k2, *p5, k2, p4, k2; rep from *
R 16:  p2, *k4, p2, (ssk, yo) twice, k1, p2; rep from *
R18:  p2, * sl next 2 sts to dpn and hold in front, k2, then k2 from dpn; p2,

R 19-24:  repeat rows 15-18, then rows 15 and 16 again

Instructions:

Cast on 191 stitches (I recommend the knitting cast-on.)  Work Row 1 of
each pattern in the following order:  seed stitch over 21 stitches; framed
ladder over 18 stitches; popcorn stitch over 18 stitches;  framed ladder
over 18 stitches; tilting ladder over 41 stitches; framed cabled over 18
stitches; popcorn stitch over 18 stitches; framed cable over 18 stitches;
seed stitch over 21 stitches.

Work patterns as set for 288 rows; bind off in knit.

Finishing:  as desired.  Suggestions:  single crochet around plus another
row of double crochet at each end, especially if you want to fringe.
