Now ALL of your 12 thumbs should be able to do this one!;-) 2 Needle Mittens Sizes: 2-4 6-8 10-12 4 1/2 inch 5 1/2 inch 6 inch Use 2 oz knitting worsted or Sayelle and 2 #10 knitting needles. **RIGHT MITT: Cast on 30 sts(34,40) Work even in (k1,p1) ribbing for 2 inches(2 1/2 in, 3 in) Work 4 rows even in stocking st,ending with purl row.** To make thumb gusset:1st row: k15(17,20). Inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts.Knit to end of row. 2nd row:Purl 3rd row: k15(17,20).Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to end of row. 4th row:Purl 5th row:K15(17,20).Inc 1 st in next st.Knit 4. Inc 1 st in next st.Knit to end of row. Continue increasing in this manner, that is, having 2 sts more between the increases for thumb gusset, every alternate row to 38 sts on needle(44,52) Purl 1 row. To make thumb: Next row: k25(29,34). TURN. next row: Cast on 1 sts, p10 (12,14). TURN. next row: Cast on 1 st, k11(13,15) Continue in stocking st on these sts until thumb measures 1 1/4ins(1 1/2, 2) ending with a purl row. Next Row: k1,*k2tog. Repeat from * to end of row. Break yarn. Thread end through remaining sts. Draw up and fasten securely. Sew up thumb seam. To make remainder of mitt: with right side of work facing, join yarn to last st on right hand needle. Pick up and k 2 sts at base of thumb. Knit across sts on left hand needle. Next row:P13 (15,18). P2tog. Purl to end of row. 30 sts on needle (34,40). Beginning with knit row, continue even in stocking st until work from top of ribbing measures 3 1/2 ins (4 1/4 ins, 5 ins) ending with a purl row. To shape top: 1st row: k1,sl1,k1,psso,k9(11,14),k2tog,k2,sl1,k1,psso. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog, k1. 2nd row: Purl. 3rd row: k1,sl1,k1,psso,k7(9,12),k2tog,k2,sl1,k1,psso. Knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Continue decreasing in this manner every alternate row to 18(18,16)sts on needle ending with a knit row. Cast off purlways. Sew side seam. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Left Mitt: work exactly as given for right mitt from ** to **. To make thumb gusset: 1st row: k12(14,17). Inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts. Knit to end of row. 2nd row: purl. 3rd row: k12(14,17). Inc 1 st in next st. K2. Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to end of row. 4th row: Purl. 5th row: k12(14,17). Inc 1 st in next st. K4. Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to end of row. Continue increasing in this manner every alternat row to 38 (44,52)sts on needle. Purl 1 row. To make thumb: k22(26,31). TURN next row: cast on 1 st, p10(12,14). TURN next row: cast on 1 st, k11(13,15) Continue to correspond to right mitt, being sure that the 2 sts purled together when making remainder of mitt, are purled together over the picked up sts at base of thumb.
