According to Montse Stanley in "Knitter's Handbook", SSK is a knit decrease and gives a slant to the left, same as sl,k,psso, which is a slip decrease giving a slant to the left. SSK 1. (Slip 1 knitwise) twice. 2. Insert left needle into front of these two sts, from left, and k2tog. SL,K,PSSO 1. Slip 1 st knitwise. 2. K1. 3. With the left needle, pass the sl st over the st just worked. SLIP STITCH TIP A handy tip I read somewhere about slip stitches is if you are going to use the slipped st right away, such as in the above sl,k,psso, you slip it knitwise; but if you are not using it until another row, slip it purlwise -- Now, Knit; Later, Purl.
