Thanks to Reina , Heather, Brenda, Margaret, and Andrea, each of whom made some helpful suggestions about the chenille monster (I'm dreading it more and more, *despite* the kindly advice!). I'm including here excerpts from their suggestions: ...tapestry wool or perle cotton; ...Use sewing thread in a matching color, or maybe a matching yarn. (If you have to buy, use tapestry yarn -- it comes in teeny little hanks, just enough to sew up a sweater, and in a zillion colors, so matching shouldn't be difficult.); ...try a coordinating color yarn -- cotton or wool of about the same thickness; ...might I suggest using sewing thread... doubled of the same color. They won't be able to see it, the threads will be strong and embed themselves into the pile; ...I just finished a chenille sweater, and I sewed it together with sock yarn. I got as close a match as I could to the sweater colour and used the mattress stitch to sew it together, so the 'thread' doesn't show at all. AND I have yarn to make matching socks! All reassuring and possible suggestions. *Everyone* agreed that sewing with the chenille was a bad idea. At least one catastrophe has been averted. Thanks everyone! I'll let y'all know what happens.
