Wool Works needs your help

Wool Works is the oldest handknitting site on the Web. Online since 1994, and on its own domain since September 20, 1997, it collects at least a quarter of a million hits on its front page alone each year.

I don't update it anymore because I am out of the computer industry and spend very little time online. (I've changed careers, and am now a classroom teacher of English as a second language for immigrant and refugee women in Toronto.)

In 1998, I had to ask the Wool Works visitors for help in paying the bills. Boy, did you come through: more than $2,000 (Canadian) arrived in less than three weeks. The kind folks at Vex.net were so amazed, and so generous themselves, that they have been very flexible and understanding about money ever since. But Vex.net is a business, not a charity, and they do need the money for the bandwidth that Wool Works has been using.

Wool Works uses a lot of bandwidth, even though the site is mostly text, not images. I haven't worked on the site lately, but you amazing knitters, especially the regulars on the discussion boards, have turned this place into such a vibrant community that it continues to attract new visitors.

You can use PayPal to send donations to Wool Works, at emily@woolworks.org. Please note that Wool Works isn't a registered charity, or even an organization, really; it's just my ten-year-old pet project that seems to have taken on a life of its own. (Me, I'm just a knitter who had some Web space and a boring job at an opportune time.) I'm afraid I can't offer receipts. But I can and do promise that every dime you give to support Wool Works will go directly to Vex.net to pay for Wool Works' hosting and bandwidth.

Any amount you can give, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated by me, by all the knitters who make Wool Works such a popular site, and especially by the Vex.net system administrators, who have been more than gracious, patient, and flexible about the demands my "little" domain has made on their network.

Thanks for reading.
