About Wool Works

Wool Works, formerly known as the Online Knitting Magazine, is the oldest collection of handknitting information on the Web. My name is Emily Way, and I started the site in 1994. Since then, I have maintained the whole site, except for the books page, maintained by Julia G., the events list, maintained by Esther Bozak, and the stores directory, maintained by Joy B. The site is paid for by donations from visitors and by Google AdSense. Please visit Wool Works' sponsors to keep the site free.

I knit as a hobby. I have no connection to any aspect of the textile industry, except as an occasional customer. I'm just a knitter who had some Web space when the knitting list wanted some of their posts to be more permanently available. The site has provided me no financial compensation. I maintain it because I believe in the Internet as a place for the free exchange of information, and because the net.knitters I've encountered in the past few years have been wonderful, generous people whose community I want to help and encourage.

(I hate to have to say this, but I do; the site is paid for by donations, and I work hard to maintain it, and it's not fair for others to profit from my work or the donors' generosity.) These pages and their contents are all copyright 1994-2006 by me or the original authors. I ask that you not reproduce any content without permission. Making money from this site, except by listing your store or URL, is expressly prohibited.

If you have written something that appears on this site and that you would prefer not to have here, please let me know and I'll remove it, with my sincerest apologies. The material here comes from a large variety of sources and has been accumulating since 1994; although I try to be careful, some of the older content is difficult to verify. I'm just one person trying to provide a public service; rest assured I'm not making any money from your work.
